About the role: DER Engineer (Distributed Energy Resources)
Reporting to the Orchestration Leader, the DER Engineer sits within EnergyAustralia’s Specialised Businesses team; a multidisciplinary team whose mandate is to expand the portfolio of dispatchable small-scale (<5MW) energy assets, provide innovative solutions and drive significant growth in the customer base. The role works alongside subject matter experts (SMEs) within the orchestration team, business operations, Go-To-Market, finance, and legal - Responsibilities include:
- New DER project Development: identify, evaluate and define business cases for scalable DER projects, such as community batteries
- Assist the team to drive DER projects from final investment decision to commercial operations, including engineering governance, documentation and cross-functional coordination
- Work closely with asset engineers, data scientists and VPP providers to support DER value generation to meet business case expectations
- Work with the vendor and industry partners to provide technical, performance, security, customer, and operational improvements consistent with DER engineering / technology roadmaps, and product strategy
- Perform data analysis to assess and improve DER fleet market performance such as volatility capture and percent of perfect.

This a great opportunity for someone who has a baseline understanding of engineering (electrical/mechatronics etc) and is looking to join an innovative team where there’s an opportunity to learn get involved with an array of projects. Additionally, you will also have most of the following:
- 2+ years’ experience in an energy program of work; involving DER, VPP, wholesale electricity markets, storage operations and services.
- Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent qualification (Power Systems preferred).
- Good understanding of power systems and energy markets, particularly on storage operations, with consideration to both technical and commercial factors.
- Demonstrated involvement in and capacity to own small scale projects with a broad understanding of project management disciplines.
- Demonstrated innovative approach to problem solving with a strong ability to formulate, synthesise and analyse unstructured complex problems to provide meaningful advice and insights.
- Strong people skills with ability to work in a broadly skilled, cross-functional team.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable, to remain open to new ways of thinking and doing, to challenge respectfully and to be challenged.
