About the Opportunity

Charles Elena is urgently seeking an experienced Performance Engineer to join a specialist Quality Engineering team embedded within a leading financial institution. This is an immediate contract opportunity based in Melbourne, initially engagement for 6 months, with the potential for extension.

In this role, you will contribute across test automation, performance engineering, service virtualization, and chaos engineering — working alongside platform teams to drive quality outcomes throughout the software development lifecycle.

About You

You are a mid-level Performance Engineer with solid hands-on experience across the full testing lifecycle. You are comfortable working within large, complex enterprise environments and are confident translating non-functional requirements into robust performance testing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Driving a Performance Engineering approach across the SDLC and contribute to platform integration and better system performance outcomes through analysis and testing
• Implementing & monitoring quality metrics including trend analysis of discrepancies and defects
• Writing user and infrastructure stories that reflect the NFR requirements of the individual software components to allow all stakeholders to reach agreement on the non-functional requirements of the Platform
• Validating that NFRs for software components to be implement for the software and Infrastructure user stories
• Developing performance automation scripts to validate the NFRs criteria contained in the user stories
• Driving investigations into problems and correction actions relating to recurring problems
• Logging quality defects (Defects with all details and explanations) which helps development & SRE team to fix the issues faster
• Validating the scripts that deploy the software components onto the infrastructure
• Ensuring that quality and SDLC procedures defined for the position within the service are followed, along with Automation approach with a focus on the importance of NFRs through all phases on the SLDC
• Proactively managing risk; meeting all policy and compliance requirements; performing controls; adhering to Process and Procedures pertinent to role and escalate events, issues, or breaches as they are identified
• Successfully implementing Performance Engineering frameworks and sufficiently up skill asset team capability to self-service with minor trailing help
• Continuous reviewing and adopting to performance engineering tools and frameworks
• Ability to take system logs, monitoring dashboards and other inputs to predict, identify issues and resolve performance bottleneck within the Service Platform
• Application and integration of the "shift left" performance engineering approach across platform ensuring testing, performance and quality are embedded in day one of development

Risk Responsibilities

• Proactively manage risk, meeting all policy and compliance requirements; perform controls; adhere to process and procedures pertinent to role; and escalate events, issues, or breaches as they are identified (risk accountability forms part of all roles, as everyone is responsible for managing risk and compliance)

Accountabilities

• Successfully implement Agile based PE solutions; working with platform teams, partners and senior NAB stakeholders to deliver high quality products and features to NAB customers
• Successfully implement PE frameworks and sufficiently up skill asset team capability to self-service with minor trailing help
• Fully automated Performance Test frameworks
• Continuous review and adoption of Performance engineering tools and frameworks
• Application and integration of the "shift left" quality engineering approach across platforms ensuring testing, performance and quality are embedded in day one of development

Role Knowledge & Technical Competencies

• Minimum 10+ years' experience in Performance testing tools (JMeter, Performance Centre, Gatling), Performance Analysis and tuning web and application-based applications at scale
• Experience in Application and Infrastructure Performance Monitoring and Analytics Tools (such as AppDynamics, Nagios, CA Wily Introscope, Splunk)
• Exposure to Client side performance and Chaos engineering
• Software development, programming, or scripting languages (Java, J2EE, Ruby, Python, Perl, Shell)
• Linux administration (Debian, Ubuntu and RHEL) and standard UNIX utilities and programs Version control (Git, SVN)
• Database technologies (Oracle) /SQL
• AWS or other Cloud Computing experience

Qualifications

Software/Computer Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Programming, or related tertiary qualification is advantageous.
