Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Medical BPT2 (consolidation phase) to join our Medical Workforce, continue physician training and serve our wonderful, diverse community.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

Within Northern Health, Basic Physician Trainees are rostered through Northern Hospital, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre and Craigieburn Centre (ie- not Mernda, or Kilmore sites)

About the Role

This position is specifically designed to meet the training requirements of doctors continuing their physician training with the RACP in 2027. This year is about consolidating your specialty area training and commencing General Medical Registrar experience whilst preparing for the RACP written examination.

We are looking for enthusiastic Medical BPT2 (consolidation phase) to join our Medical Workforce, continue physician training and serve our wonderful, diverse community. This position is also available to more experienced HMO’s who are comfortable working at medical registrar level and looking to commence Basic Physician Training too (foundation year).

Northern Health offers a wide range of rotations to meet all your Physician Training requirements and career goals over the three-year program. We have a dynamic, enthusiastic and dedicated group of physician’s keen to teach supported by Directors of Physician Education (DPEs) who have developed a tailored tutorial program for BPTs. Preparation for Physician Exams begins in BPT2, with a shared education program with shared resources across Northern Health, Austin Health, and Bendigo Health including all tutorials, mock exams, specialty training days etc. It’s an enormous and very well established, collegiate prep program!

Additionally, Northern Health BPT program is about more than just passing the exams- we want to ensure that our trainees have all the tools necessary to be great clinicians- we run communication skills workshops, clinical decision making and bias workshops, and other professional development skills such as interviewing skills, performance coaching etc.

Medical positions include rotations in the following areas:

  • Neurology (HMO)
  • Endocrinology (HMO)
  • Infectious Disease (HMO)
  • ICU (HMO)
  • Gastroenterology (HMO)
  • Renal (HMO); Respiratory (HMO); Cardiology (HMO)* these are primarily bpt1 level jobs
  • Specialist Clinics (HMO) (Craigieburn)
  • General Medicine (Reg) (Northern Hospital, Horsham Hospital, Echuca Health, Broadmeadows Health Service)
  • Aged Care (Reg) (Bundoora and Broadmeadows hospital)
  • Admitting Medical Unit/Perioperative Medicine (Reg)

  • Medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Must have satisfactorily completed intern year in Australia
