Legal Counsel (12 month Contract)

Our client is a leading owner and operator of nationally significant infrastructure, responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of commercial assets and delivering a substantial pipeline of capital projects.

The legal team plays a key role across the business, partnering with stakeholders on a broad range of commercial, property, corporate and strategic matters within a collaborative, high-performing environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Managing Counsel, this is a broad commercial legal role offering exposure across commercial contracting, property, corporate governance and strategic business initiatives. While the business has a significant infrastructure and capital projects portfolio, this is not a specialist construction role. Instead, it will suit a commercially minded lawyer who enjoys working across a diverse range of legal issues and partnering closely with the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, including procurement, supply, services, consultancy, technology, confidentiality and other strategic commercial contracts.
• Advising on property matters including leasing, licensing, acquisitions, disposals, development agreements and the ongoing management of a substantial property portfolio.
• Supporting strategic business initiatives, commercial transactions and operational projects across the organisation.
• Providing legal advice on governance, regulatory compliance, risk management and corporate matters.
• Assisting with capital works and infrastructure projects, including procurement, contract negotiations and project delivery where required.
• Managing external legal advisers and coordinating specialist advice when appropriate.
• Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and providing pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice that enables the business to achieve its strategic objectives.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be a talented lawyer with approximately 4-8 years' PAE, gained within a respected law firm or an in-house legal team.

This opportunity would suit lawyers with experience in commercial, property, corporate, infrastructure or projects, who are looking to broaden their practice within a sophisticated in-house environment.

You will also bring:

• Strong drafting and negotiation skills across a variety of commercial agreements.
• Exposure to commercial transactions, property matters, corporate advisory work or infrastructure-related projects.
• A commercial mindset with the ability to balance legal risk against business outcomes.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills and the confidence to build trusted relationships across the business.
• Strong communication skills, sound judgement and a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
