The Opportunity

As a Building Surveyor with the City of Perth, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, compliant and high-quality development of Western Australia's capital city. Working within a collaborative and experienced team, you will assess complex building applications, issue permits and certificates, provide expert technical advice, and contribute to the City's commitment to delivering safe and sustainable built outcomes.

Reporting to the Principal Building Surveyor within our Planning and Sustainability Alliance, your responsibilities would primarily include:

• Assessing and determining building applications, permits and certificates in accordance with the Building Act, Building Code of Australia, relevant legislation and City policies;
• Providing expert technical advice on building regulations, compliance, performance-based building solutions to internal and external stakeholders;
• Undertaking inspections, compliance monitoring and auditing of existing buildings, helping to ensure public safety and minimise building compliance risks across the City; and
• Building strong relationships with industry professionals, consultants, developers and internal stakeholders to support efficient, collaborative and high-quality development outcomes.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will possess:

• A tertiary qualification in a building-related discipline, an Advanced Diploma in Building Surveying (or equivalent), or be nearing completion of a relevant qualification;
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience applying the Building Code of Australia, relevant Australian Standards, building approval processes and statutory requirements;
• Experience assessing complex building proposals, interpreting legislation and providing practical technical advice on building compliance matters; and
• Highly developed communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build productive relationships and deliver outstanding customer service.
