This Environmental Data Systems Specialist position is for someone who's ready to do more than produce maps.

You're joining a growing national environmental consultancy that has already built a strong technical GIS capability, but now wants someone to bring it all together. Rather than inheriting a team to manage, you're building the framework that everyone else will work within.

At the moment, different specialists produce mapping and figures in different ways. It works, but it isn't consistent. Your role is to create that consistency, improve efficiency, reduce reporting time and become the technical authority the business turns to for everything GIS.

Over the next few years, that naturally evolves into building and leading a national GIS function.

If you enjoy improving systems, creating standards and leaving things better than you found them, this is a genuinely unique opportunity.

The Role

Initially, your focus will be on building the foundations.

You'll:

• Take ownership of the GIS function across the business.
• Review existing GIS workflows, systems and processes.
• Develop consistent mapping standards and templates across multiple offices.
• Improve reporting efficiency and reduce production time.
• Act as the technical GIS expert supporting environmental consultants nationally.
• Work closely with environmental scientists and engineers on major environmental projects.
• Help shape future GIS capability, technology and innovation.
• Build and eventually lead a national GIS team as the business continues to grow.

Rather than being judged on utilisation targets, you'll be measured on the quality of the systems you build and the improvements you deliver.

You'll join a highly regarded national environmental consultancy with an excellent reputation for technical quality and long-term client relationships.

The Adelaide office continues to grow steadily, backed by a secure pipeline of environmental work across contaminated land, infrastructure and major projects. The culture is collaborative, down-to-earth and focused on delivering quality outcomes rather than chasing billable hours.

The existing GIS specialists are technically excellent. They simply enjoy remaining hands-on rather than leading a national function. That's where you come in.

Experience

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, improving systems and taking ownership.

You'll ideally bring:

• Strong Australian GIS experience with advanced QGIS capability (essential).
• Experience improving GIS systems, workflows or business processes.
• Background within environmental consulting, engineering, infrastructure or a similar technical consulting environment.
• A genuine interest in creating consistency and improving the way GIS is delivered.

Location: Melbourne (preferred), or Adelaide based.
