About the role
A fantastic new opportunity has become available for three Generation Control Room Operators to join our team. As AGL's renewable generation portfolio continues to expand, these newly created positions will play a key role in supporting the safe, reliable and efficient operation of our growing Hydro, Wind, Gas and Battery fleet. As part of a team working on a 24/7 roster, you will be responsible for operating and overseeing the power station fleet within of AGL Energy's Melbourne based Dispatch Centre. Reporting to the Remote Dispatch Centre Manager, you will be a part of operating of AGL's newest assets as we continue our journey in the energy transition. Extensive training, support and collaboration are a core part of the role.
What you'll be doing
- Overseeing and operating AGL's newest generation assets in our newly refurbished Dispatch Centre.
- Plan, coordinate and oversee remote operations to support safe, reliable and efficient production outcomes, working collaboratively with teams across the company to meet operational targets.
- Provide operational support and incident response coordination, including participation in routine emergency preparedness exercises.
- Monitor and manage water storages and river systems associated with electricity generation assets to optimise water movements and operational performance.
- Collaborate closely with Physical Markets Electricity Traders to communicate asset capabilities and support the accurate offering of energy and ancillary services into the National Electricity Market (NEM).
- Support the safe and efficient remote operation of AGL's renewable generation assets from our Melbourne CBD-based control room.
- Build effective working relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
About You
This opportunity would suit someone with experience in energy operations who is comfortable making decisions and working in a small team who support a 24/7 operation. Ideally you will have prior experience in a control room, operations centre, dispatch environment or similar operational setting however, experience in roles adjacent to real time operations of the energy industry will also be highly regarded. We also welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills and experiences who are looking to grow their career in the energy sector.
What you'll bring to the table
- Demonstrated success working with teams and stakeholders to deliver safe and effective operational outcomes.
- A strong commitment to safety and an understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements in operational environments.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
- An interest in power system or energy markets, and any existing knowledge will be considered advantageous.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications, trade qualifications or equivalent transferable experience will be highly regarded.
